Thin Red Lies
Mother takes my folded green
No more will I wear the fight in dust fields
Surrender your political bag of tricks
Hand in those golden wings of Mavericks
In everyday the cost of no debt yet paid
What is normality if not civilian casualty
Our enemy in cover
Thy nemesis to conquest
Contrarian to common sense
My mind won’t leave these hostilities
No friend I am to time or myself
Broken toy soldiers left on the shelf
Old bone with so much story to be told
No happy end to hero call
Take your word of empty praise
Not for me, but the rebuilding family
To reminisce in such things
Is to never miss memories so tragic
They play in sequence of life's cruel pageant
Carry with us the unfortunate ones
Across a field of graves yet dug
No brother in arms be so heavy
I will take you home to celebrate in memory
A warrior to be my brothers keeper
Admire with pride our uniformed sisters
At your side to fight for our forgiveness
Rewarded with badges of coloured valour
Pins and ribbon to cover our stained chest
No medal will I hang but rest on the coffin
Just with me a photo
What love should be
Echoes of battalion soldiers brave
We will fight with blood to brothers oath be sworn
May cover our grave to protect all we have left
Our love to keep so tight within our chest
No civilian life be less then the next
We fight to the edge for where our heart waits on the front step
We honour their sacrifice on this day
Your battle be over on fields of clay
Rest those boots at the back of the room
Tuck in those laces, stuff in the newspaper
The echoes of last battles, our marching flute
Heard through our rifle salute
As we lay our brothers to rest under sky
I will pen your goodbye to where love cries
The passing parade on black days
No soldier left we will return to collect
Salute these balloons we let go to never forget
For all who remain on fields far away
No uniform of flag and green you wear
But true brother without cover
I give you peace this day
May no war ever find you again
Those who remain shall colour in the shade
Too long has it been, this fading grey
But not on this day
I say with hand on these graves
Red flower gives its petals to save
A memory in service so we never forget
What life of Sons our Mothers gave away
So no soldier be buried any longer with shame
Through trenches we refuse to surrender
Do we never leave a fallen brother
Petals red of blood that be given
Shall they fall down with mother’s kisses
Each flower shall they sing
Of honourable men and women
Wind take them to where the rest are calling
And land on graves of the fallen
May with time it never fade
In warming Sun or deepest slumber
Shall it be forever the brightest petal
To shine through the rain of our finest brave
No grave in name to be hollow with blame
Should we forget to explain what life a soldier became
May memories never fade
As we stand in the 100 year rain
To be in rememberance of that time served
Be never borrowed to returned
Soil of earth hold these sons and daughters
May they never slouch their shoulders
As we bow our head so they may hold them high
Their souls still marching to protect as they pass us by
Thanks given to services rendered
The enemy we try to kill
On another day of good will
Could be the one that saves me
To share a story of our true enemy
Poor children hiding under kitchen sinks
Never to be chained prisoners of fate
Do not fear our falling tears on painted face
I am the hand that stops you from falling
The once lost now found to hear you calling
No enemy I shall have again from this day
No battle left to help my brothers die
Just me getting lost in bottle of misery
A drink in thought of our bravest uniforms
We shall pin our thanks on no ribbon
But on word given to our children born
